Church Planters

The Position

Church planting is a challenging and rewarding mission that will change your life and the lives of everyone in your community. If you have a passion evangelism, the heart to build relationships and the energy to succeed, you may find your role as a church planter one of the most enriching endeavors you’ll ever undertake.

The church planter will:

  • Build trusting, loving relationships with native of the Balkans who know little about evangelical Christianity, Western culture or the English language
  • Partner with fellow ABWE missionaries to create a safe community of like-minded thinkers
  • Use common interests and fun activities that may lead to pre-evangelism, evangelism and discipleship
  • Explain the differences between the Word of God and the native religions in the Balkans
  • Have deep conversations about the faith, beliefs and practices that define a follower of Jesus Christ
The Need

The need for church planters in the Balkans is great. The culture is primarily Muslim, although there are also Catholic and Orthodox citizens. This diverse culture has led to significant disruptions, including civil wars, and yielded an atmosphere of distrust. As part of the former Yugoslavia, the beautiful region is rich in a wide variety of resources and history. A church planter in the Balkans must be prepared to acknowledge the beliefs of the mostly Muslim population while continuing to share the truth of Christ’s love with those who are willing to listen.

The Impact

ABWE planted the seeds for the growth of God’s church in 2002, when a missionary used street hockey to gather neighborhood children. Our missionaries built trust and respect, and the hockey program kept kids off the street and in school. Today, those same kids have joined the ABWE community as engaged leaders who use sports to encourage impressionable minds to stay on the path of righteousness.

As a missionary and church planter, you’ll make an eternal difference in the lives of the people in the Balkans. Learn more about ABWE today.

Due to the ongoing global COVID-19 crisis, ABWE is limiting international travel of short-term missionaries originating from the US and assessing the level of risk per country per US State Department guidelines.
