May All Nations Be Blessed by Him and Call Him Blessed

The goal of missions is that Jesus’ name be made famous.

“May his name endure forever; as long as the sun shines, may his fame increase. May all nations be blessed by him and call him blessed.” (Ps. 72:17 CSB)

How many names will be forgotten? How many names will be lost to history? Not the name of Jesus; his name will endure forever because of what he has done.

One of the reasons why we praise the name of Jesus is because he fulfills the promise given to Abraham. His name will be great among the nations because it is only through him that people from every nation are blessed with redemption, forgiveness of sins, and adoption as sons.

I will make your offspring as numerous as the stars of the sky, I will give your offspring all these lands, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed by your offspring[.] (Gen. 26:4 CSB)

The Gentiles from every nation are made co-heirs of God’s blessings through Christ our Lord. Why wouldn’t his fame increase? Why wouldn’t his name be great among the nations?

So then you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with the saints, and members of God’s household… The Gentiles are coheirs, members of the same body, and partners of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel. (Eph. 2:19, 3:6 CSB)

Let us join in spreading his fame and praising his name. Let us join in his ministry of blessing the nations by spreading his good news. Let us pray together that all the nations would call him blessed.
