Hurricane Relief Projects

Projected start date
August, 2017

Category-5 Hurricane Irma is tied for the second-strongest ever recorded in the Atlantic Ocean, significantly impacting the Caribbean, especially in the U.S. Virgin Islands and Barbuda—which has been mostly abandoned by it's inhabitants—and causing damage throughout Florida. Category-5 hurricane Maria followed a similar path and pounded Puerto Rico, St. Thomas and other Caribbean islands, leaving wide-spread devastation.

Our goal is to raise $100,000 to help ABWE missionaries and partners serving in the Caribbean, as well as the Southeast portion of the United States meet the humanitarian crisis caused by these storms. Funds will be used in partnership with local churches whenever possible to meet the urgent practical needs of the people in communities they serve and open doors for sharing the hope found in Jesus Christ.

Hurricane Harvey made landfall on August 25, 2017 in Texas and ravaged Houston, dumping record levels of water on the country's fourth-largest city and surrounding areas. The storm created historic flooding and according to experts "could be the worst flooding disaster in US history."

The National Weather Service reported that areas in and around Houston received over 4 feet of rain before the storm passed. Local churches are becoming relief distribution centers to provide shelter and food. In the long-term, local churches will be a primary source for aid including clothing, cleaning supplies, and home repair crews and supplies.

Our goal is to raise $50,000 for the ABWE North America team to partner with churches in the hardest-hit areas and provide compassion-based relief and provide spiritual hope to those impacted by this storm.

In the coming weeks, crews of people will be needed to help distribute goods and repair homes. If you would like to travel to Texas to help, contact Sheila McConville who is coordinating the local relief effort with churches in the area.

*Any funds that remain unused after needs are met for these projects will be transferred to a fund available to provide relief in future disasters both domestically and internationally.
