Amanda Bloom

Portugal

She was born deaf into a hearing family. With her father as a pastor, she grew up in church all her life and heard the Gospel. Her mother became an interpreter so Amanda would hear the Gospel in American Sign Language.

At 11 years old, she said the "sinner's prayer" but did not truly understand what it meant. A year after her mother passed away, she realized that she was sinner. She knew that she lived a hypocritical life as she lived a "perfect Christian." At 15, she asked Jesus Christ to forgive her for her sins and be her Savior. Soon after, she surrendered to serve God as He pleased.

While attending Tennessee Temple University, she attended a Deaf conference, and heard about the need for deaf missionaries to go reach other Deaf. She experienced her "duh moment" and dedicated her life to reaching Deaf people for Christ. In 2014, she boarded the airplane to Portugal. Within her first year on the field, God revealed that she is to translate the Scripture into Portuguese Sign Language.

About Amanda's Ministry

Living Romans 15:21, Amanda is going to those who have not been announced to nor heard about Jesus. It is her goal that they will see and understand the truth of the Gospel. With over 11,500 Deaf people in Portugal, the deaf are unreached. Working with a hearing couple, the goal is to establish a deaf church with opportunities to learn the Bible in groups and individuals.

Partnering with the Portuguese Bible Society and the Deaf Bible Society, Amanda has begun a Portuguese Sign Language Bible Translation project. The videos will be accessible through DeafBible app, where the Deaf will be able to read the Bible in their heart language wherever they are. In the meantime, she will disciple, train, and befriend the Deaf as she shares the Hope of Christ with them.

Partnering with Amanda, you will have the opportunity to see God do the impossible. Your support and prayers will back Amanda as she facilitates outreach events, disciples Deaf believers, teaches hearing believers in Deaf Ministries, translates the Scripture in sign language, and trains Deaf in the Bible and translation work.
