Community Development Workers

The Position

Community development workers are needed to empower members of their communities to meet felt needs while sharing biblical truths that lead to spiritual transformations. Ministry opportunities include community health education, agriculture, income-generating development skills, small-business training, and child-protection education. All of these are exciting opportunities which can be woven together with communicating life-changing truths from the Word of God to ultimately change the direction of whole families and even communities.

As a community development worker you can:

  • Coach community members in skills needed to better improve their lives
  • Offer families life-saving information regarding common illnesses
  • Use your enthusiasm for sharing the Word of God to build excitement and curiosity about Jesus Christ
  • Share the love of God and communicate the gospel
The Need

In The Gambia, you will spend time among people who have never heard of Jesus Christ. English is the official national language of The Gambia, but of the 17 unreached people groups living in this country, many don’t speak it — although many understand Wolof. To minister to their spiritual needs, we need team members with a willingness to learn their language and culture. Although the barriers to missions are great, so are the rewards — people call us every week because they want to learn more about Jesus Christ! With 90 percent of the population coming from a Muslim background, and two percent holding indigenous views, there is a tremendous need to share the hope found in Jesus Christ in The Gambia.

The Impact

As a community development worker in The Gambia, you will be in a unique position to develop meaningful relationships with the Wolof people. We desperately need more disciple makers, like you, so that we can respond to The Gambia's growing hunger for the truth. Our vision is to have missionaries strategically located in every region so that we can evangelize, disciple, and prepare new believers in The Gambia to lead the churches of the future.

Currently, ABWE missionaries are working with the Wolof in The Gambia. Will you join our team and help us share the gospel to a nation hungry for truth?

Due to COVID-19, travel requirements for trips originating from the US vary by location. To learn more, contact us at go@abwe.org. We’d love to talk to you!
