Church Planters

The Position

With less than one percent of the population professing to be Christian, there is a huge need for pioneer missionaries in every city and town in Japan. Almost 50% of the cities and towns in Japan do not have a single church. Pioneer church planters will need to be creative and courageous enough to find ways to overcome the many obstacles facing missionaries in Japan.

The Need

Japan is home to 126 million people, but less than 1 percent have accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior. Worst still, many Japanese haven’t ever seen a Bible or spoken with a Christian. The small number of churches is declining as congregations and leaders age. Japanese missionaries are leaving the region in alarming numbers.

With your help, we can transform the region and impact countless lives for the better. We need your God-given people skills to build powerful relationships that can make lasting change. We need your fresh ideas to reach people and build relationships.

The Impact

The number of missionaries working in Japan continues to dwindle, but imagine the impact you can have on the eternal lives of those you reach! In Japan, ABWE’s missions team accepts that progress comes one person at a time. You can strengthen Japan’s existing churches by training the leaders of tomorrow. ABWE Japan has established a handful of churches, some with their own pastors. There has been work with the deaf community, children and youth, and adults, and we are now seeing Christian families growing together in their faith.

Due to the ongoing global COVID-19 crisis, ABWE is limiting international travel of short-term missionaries originating from the US and assessing the level of risk per country per US State Department guidelines. To inquire about travel restrictions or exceptions, please contact go@abwe.org. We would love to talk to you!
