Church Planters

The Position

Through our INSPIRE George initiative, we desire to begin 4-6 new churches over the next 10 years. In order to do that, we need couples with ministry experience that will come and help us begin and then lead churches to be self-supporting.

The Need

Archbishop Desmond Tutu first called South Africa the “Rainbow Nation” due its diverse population. In terms of religious diversity, every major religion is represented (Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and others.) But among the Christian population there is significant and sustained syncretism with traditional African religions, and the need for sound biblical theology.

Additionally, the AIDS virus continues to take a brutal toll in South Africa. Very few families are unaffected by this deadly disease. The local church needs to be resourced to step into these hurting lives with hope.

ABWE has teams serving in three major South African cities: Cape Town, Durban and George. All three of the teams are working in multiple church plants in their areas, with the objective to plant reproducing, multi-cultural congregations led by national pastors and leaders.

Is the Lord leading you to learn a new culture, live among a new people group, and share the gospel in South Africa?

The Impact

Use your skills to help fulfill the Great Commission. As Christians, Jesus has called us to go and make disciples of all nations, and we believe that process isn’t completed until these disciples are gathered into a local community of believers: a church. Church planting is the heartbeat of evangelism, and it’s at the core of who we are at ABWE. It’s hard work, but for those called to the challenge, there is no greater reward on earth than watching a community of believers grow in their faith, and begin to understand their own role in the Great Commission.
