Saved To Serve

Growing up with an alcoholic father, Maicol used basketball to escape the drama unfolding at home, often playing for up to 10 hours a day. It was on the court that he met ABWE missionary Dan Richner as he was mentoring a group of young players.

“He had all this peace. I had never seen anything like it in my life,” Maicol said. “I wanted to know why.”

After three years of mentoring, Dan invited Maicol to a weeklong Christian camp, and Maicol placed his faith in Jesus. Shortly after, members of Cedarville University’s basketball team came to Brazil on a mission trip and offered Maicol a basketball scholarship. Maicol was soon headed to the states to study pre-seminary and develop his passion for bringing the gospel to his people.

After meeting his wife Mandy, the couple returned to Brazil, working with the same missionaries who prayed for Maicol before he was saved.
