Job Summary/Primary Role: The Design Specialist will design digital and print materials needed for the visual communications needs of the ABWE and its ministries. This graphic artist will participate in exploration meetings, shape and implement production schedules and processes, provide concepts, complete layouts, deliver products, and manage and store assets, ensuring delivery of the highest quality creative work. The graphic designer will work closely with the Director of Communications, Senior Design Specialist, and Message Magazine editors to enforce brand standards and create products of beauty that compellingly convey the message of mission.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Produce graphics, layout, art, and design in a digital-first environment for ABWE website, Message Magazine, and other organizational media including email campaigns, letters, brochures, and displays.
  • Implement brand strategy and standards across entire ABWE family of ministries.
  • Cooperate with Communications team in exploration meetings, review of proofs, color correction, production changes, and printer relations as needed.
  • Assist staff and missionaries with design standards, tools, and guidance on communicating corporate image and identity.
  • Assist with quality control for visual communications pieces across the International Headquarters.
  • Utilize digital asset management (DAM) software and coordinate with other users for maximum adoption of DAM platform.
  • Research and acquire stock photography as needed.
  • Monitor trends and apply learning to creative work, understanding audience and ABWE’s goals.
  • Other projects and duties as assigned including website updates and minor copywriting and editing.


  • Previous related experience including a background in Adobe CS applications (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, InCopy), CMSs (WordPress or Drupal), quick-turnaround apps (Spark or Canva), Acrobat, and Microsoft Office suite.

  • Comfort with occasional use of or learning CSS and HTML.

  • 2-3 years’ graphic design experience in a marketing or communications setting with a strong portfolio.

  • Awareness of trends in visual communications to properly steer brand positioning.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design or related field required.
