Supervisory Responsibility: None

Job Summary/Primary Role: The Communications Specialist supports ABWE’s Communications Department by providing content for Message Magazine, ABWE blog, webpage copy, digital marketing campaigns, and donor communications. This person will also assist as an editor and a voice in the overall content strategy of the organization and each of its ministry divisions.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Write, edit, and deploy copy for digital and print publications, donor communications, web, social media, and marketing campaigns, navigating security issues, organizational initiatives, and global stakeholders.
  • Execute editorial calendar for magazine and blog.
  • Communicate with and develop relationships with missionaries, Executive Directors, and Regional Directors to cultivate story leads and other opportunities.
  • Serve in copywriting and editing capacity for Message Magazine and ABWE’s blog, implementing organization’s style guide across all collateral.
  • Develop content for video scripts, podcasts, and other collateral as assigned.
  • Help shape strategy for future ABWE content development.
  • Interview and research as needed for writing projects.
  • Supply content and strategy input to social media manager.
  • Provide photo/visual content as needed.
  • Occasional travel as assigned by Director (domestically or occasional international) for content development, participation in media workshops, or missionary conferences.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Digital/Visual Communications or similar, preferred.


  • Ability to pass background check and all necessary clearances as mandated by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years related work experience in marketing, journalism, public relations or related field.
  • Demonstrated outstanding writing and editing skills, and strong story-telling skills and news sense.
  • Experience and knowledge in identifying target audiences and writing communications and marketing materials messages and for maximum results and impact.
  • Able to effectively organize and execute multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong computer skills. Familiarity with design and communication software is a plus (InDesign, InCopy, Photoshop, Word).
  • Ability to encourage sharing of stories and information.
  • Experience with web marketing and social media marketing.
  • Additional skills in photography, videography, or other marketing/communication areas are preferred.
  • Have a very high level of personal and professional integrity and trustworthiness and a strong work ethic and require minimal direction, work well independently as well as part of a team and thrive in a fast-paced and fun environment.
