Prayer Updates: Seeing the Unseen

Salvation comes through hearing the gospel.

“For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature,  have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.” (Romans 1:20 ESV)

The unseen can be seen.

This sounds like a contradiction. However, it is the point that Paul makes in this verse.

God’s eternal power and divine nature are invisible. Yet, they can be seen and observed in creation.

His power to create and sustain the world is eternal. This eternal power reveals his divine nature. He is deity. Paul says this is obvious. No one can plead ignorance. God has made himself known in creation. Mankind is without excuse. The unseen can be seen.

Muslims. Hindus. Buddhists. Atheists. Agnostics. Shintos. Taoists. Confucianists. All peoples in all places in all times can see the unseen God through creation. While this knowledge is sufficient to condemn, it is insufficient to save.

Salvation comes through hearing the gospel (Rom. 10:17). We must tell them.

This week, let’s pray:

Heavenly Father, thank you for making yourself known through creation. But help us remember that salvation comes through hearing your word. Give us the courage to proclaim it.
