Missionary Training at ABWE
Field Prep Seminar Information
Expectations
Field Preparation Seminar (FPS) is a vital step in your preparation for a successful missionary ministry. All of the various missionary administrative divisions and departments within ABWE stand united in our commitment to the FPS training process. Thus, before you register for FPS, we would ask that you understand our expectations regarding your participation:
- Read the general policies regarding FPS attendance and be prepared to comply with all of them.
- Complete all required Pre-field Development reading and be prepared to discuss each in a knowledgeable manner.
- Arrive at FPS on time for the first scheduled session.
- Be prompt for each session.
- Participate with a humble learning spirit.
- Attend all sessions throughout and to the very end of the FPS program.
- Do not ask for exceptions to these expectations, other than for true and dire emergencies.
If your circumstances do not allow you to be completely focused on the FPS at this time, as described above, we would encourage you to participate at a later date when that would be possible.
Registration
If you understand these expectations regarding FPS participation and believe that you have met the requirements, send an email to Brad Winkler at tbwink@abwe.org stating your interest in attending FPS. Brad Winkler will review your status and, if approved, will invite you to attend the Field Prep Seminar. You will be given online registration information.
Arrival Time
Please plan to arrive on Sunday night so you are ready to begin early Monday morning. You may go directly to your motel. If you will be flying from the west coast, we would encourage you to arrive on Saturday so your body can begin to adjust to the time change. Your first session begins at 8:30 a.m. Monday morning, in the Worship Chapel.
If you have received an official exemption from LANCE by the CEIM Division, please plan to arrive on Wednesday evening. Your first session begins at 8:30 a.m. Thursday morning, in TR 1 of the Training Center.
Meals
Lunch will be provided daily at ABWE (except on Sunday).
Schedule
We will begin with prayer time at 8:30 each morning. On Sunday, you will be free to attend the church of your choice and meals are not provided at ABWE.

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Best Western Inn & Suites of New Cumberland located at 702 Limekiln Rd at exit 40-A, off I-83. The ABWE 2008 contract rate is $52.00 per night, which includes a continental breakfast. CEIM staff will make the Best Western reservation for you as indicated by your online FPS registration.

If you decide to stay in another hotel, feel free to make your own housing arrangements and pay for your own expenses. You can turn your receipts into ABWE for reimbursement. Most ABWE guestrooms are filled and will not be available to participants.
Child Care
Only nursing infants may be brought to Field Prep Seminar. Babysitting will be provided for all sessions. Babysitting expenses will be shared by participants with nursing infants and will be charged to their ABWE account(s). Parents are responsible for their infant during meals and free times.
Travel Information
Travel information can be submitted along with your registration. However, if you do not have your flight arrangements scheduled, you may complete the FPS "Travel Information" form once your plans are finalized. Please be aware that you will need to make your own travel arrangements to and from ABWE each day.
Severe Weather
If there is a winter storm in the forecast please follow the procedure outlined below.
- Call 717-909-2419 after 7 a.m. to get an emergency weather update from the Home Office. If the office is open and there is no delay, FPS will follow the normal schedule.
- If there is a two hour delay for the Home Office, FPS will also have a two hour delay and will make up a session that evening.
- If the Home Office is closed, FPS will be cancelled for the day. We will rearrange the schedule, as necessary.
