Missionary Training at ABWE

Core Ministries Institute General Information
The Essential Mission Components (EMC) Course

ABWE’s Core Ministries Institute (CMI) is a multi-faceted program of required training for all prefield ABWE missionaries that must be completed prior to their release to field service. CMI training focuses on equipping prefielders to excel in ABWE’s core ministries of evangelism, discipleship, biblical instruction, and church planting. It occurs at various times from Candidate Seminar to Field Prep Seminar:

The key part of the CMI training process is a five-day course, Essential Mission Components: Mapping to the End-Vision of Missions. This EMC course is offered on the campus of ABWE during the week following the Missionary Enrichment Conference. Since the EMC course is an integral part of ABWE’s Core Ministries Institute, we will refer to it here as CMI/EMC. The information on this page is related to that course.

Expectations

CMI’s Essential Mission Components (EMC) course will be held at the ABWE Training Center the week following the 2008 Missionary Enrichment Conference, July 21-25, 2008.

2007 Candidate Seminar Appointees are strongly encouraged to attend the 2008 CMI/EMC course as a group, rather than wait for a future course. But prefielders from prior Candidate Seminars are certainly welcome to attend the 2008 CMI/EMC course. Every prefield missionary, beginning with the 2004 class, is required to attend a CMI/EMC prior to departure to the mission field. You are not required or expected to attend the ME Conference the same year that you attend CMI/EMC.

The CMI/EMC teaching team will be composed of a group of ABWE veteran missionaries, with a wide representation from around the ABWE world.

Evenings will be free for your personal and family time. The hotel has a list of local activities and sites that you might want to enjoy with your family while you are here.

Before you can finalize the submission of CMI/EMC registration, you will be asked to indicate that you understand the following assignments and that these assignments will be completed and checked off your CEIM assignments on ABWE Central, before your arrival here in Harrisburg for the EMC seminar. (Couples must register individually)

STAMP – Student and Teen Adventure in Mission Preparation

STAMP will be offered simultaneously with CMI/EMC and held at Bible Baptist Church and School in nearby Shiremanstown. This training will focus on adjustments to living overseas and being an MK (missionary kid); it will be highly interactive and fun. Jim Cook, director of ABWE’s Next Generation Ministries, will lead this program, with teaching assistance by adult MKs, as well as moms and dads of MKs. We will provide bus transportation from ABWE to Bible Baptist Church and back to ABWE each day. Parents will need to complete a Student Release Form prior to your child’s departure for BBC the first day.

STAMP Class Divisions

Please complete a Student Release Form for each child that will be participating in STAMP. Download the Student Release Form here. Sign and return the form(s) to the following address:

Arrival Time

Please plan to arrive on Sunday night, so that you are ready to begin early Monday morning. You may go directly to your motel. If you will be flying from the west coast, we would encourage you to arrive on Saturday, so your body can begin to adjust to the time change.

Please plan to arrive by 8:30 a.m. on Monday, July 21 to get oriented. The adult sessions will begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude at 5:00 p.m. each day. However, if you have children registered for STAMP you must have them at ABWE by 8:30 a.m. each morning. They will be transported by bus to and from Bible Baptist Church for their program each day. Departure from ABWE will be at 8:30 a.m.; return to ABWE will be by 5:00 p.m. Plan to be present for the entire time.

Schedule

A schedule of daily events will be provided upon your arrival for the seminar. There will be a debriefing each day at 4:45 p.m. in the Worship Chapel, between the parents of those attending STAMP and the STAMP leaders.

Meals

Lunch will be provided at each of the training locations for everyone registered, but you will be on your own for breakfast and dinner meals. These can also be paid from ministry funds. Please reserve Thursday evening, July 24 and be our guest for a group family picnic at the Lower Allen Community Park.

Accommodations

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Best Western Inn & Suites of New Cumberland located at 702 Limekiln Rd at exit 40-A, off I-83.
