For this course, we use the textbook and workbook by J. Scott Duvall and J. Daniel Hays, titled Grasping God’s Word: A Hands-On Approach to Reading, Interpreting, and Applying the Bible (Zondervan, 2001), as well as the Zondervan NIV Exhaustive Concordance compiled by Goodrick and Kohlenberger (Zondervan, 1999). These books are available through Amazon.com and many other online book distribution sources.

Three options for studying this course:

  1. Anyone can order the materials from Amazon.com or elsewhere and work through the course on your own (non credit). But, ABWE missionary candidates or pre-field missionaries should choose one of the following two options.
  2. ABWE personnel or ABWE candidate applicants should request an ABWE proctor to assist with the Grasping God’s Word methods of Bible study course. The suggested donation to ABWE’s CEIM for this option is $75, which covers administrative and proctor fees. A proctor from ABWE will oversee the student’s progress through this course and will evaluate the student’s course work. There are no exams associated with this course, but the course does include numerous hands-on Bible study exercises. CEIM will grant a course certificate for successful completion of the course.
  3. ABWE personnel or ABWE candidate applicants can also register to take the course through ABWE’s CEIM and Baptist Bible Graduate School or Seminary for two graduate credits. For more information, see Graduate Credit Information. Also, be sure to read the additional information in the course design document.
