Missionary Training at ABWE
CEIM Biblical Studies: Preparing for Cross-Cultural Ministries
Every ABWE missionary, regardless of his or her specific ministry focus, is required to have completed college or seminary level Bible courses related to:
- Methods of Bible study *
- Old Testament survey
- New Testament survey
- Basic theology (Bible doctrines)
*Generally, a course in hermeneutics differs essentially from a course in methods of Bible study. Thus, we cannot accept hermeneutics for this requirement unless it can be demonstrated that the hermeneutics course did, in fact, cover the kind and amount of content generally included in a methods of Bible study course.
These Bible courses must have been received from an institution that is compatible with ABWE’s doctrinal statement and that meets ABWE’s academic standards. We require that these courses be comparable in content quality and content depth to what is normally offered in reputable Bible colleges or seminaries. Most missionary candidates who come to ABWE have already completed some or all of these required courses. For those candidates who have not taken these courses, we require that all of these courses be completed before departure to the mission field.
In an effort to make these four Bible courses accessible at an affordable cost, CEIM offers the following distance learning Bible courses for very reasonable suggested donations. These courses are available also to members of churches that send and support ABWE missionaries, national partners working with ABWE missionaries, missionaries from other organizations, as well as any other people who are seeking basic Bible training.
