EMC – Essential Mission Components CourseMapping to the End Vision
The purpose of this one-week course is to equip new missionaries for cross-cultural church planting, that leads to national or regional church planting movements, that lead to international missions movements—to the glory of God.
All ABWE prefield missionaries are required to complete the EMC course, which is offered in the latter half of July each year. We strongly recommend that the course be taken as close as possible to the prefielder’s departure to the field.
EMC is taught by a team of experienced and highly effective ABWE missionaries who represent all major areas of the ABWE World. It is a highly interactive and fun course. Most of the training is done in small group simulation-based settings.
STAMP (Students in Training and Missionary Preparation) — a program for training future missionary kids—is offered during the week of EMC for the children of EMC course attendees.
Expectations
Before you can submit your EMC registration, you will be asked to indicate that you understand the following Prefield Development assignments and state that they have been completed. They must be logged on Central for verification.
- Complete your country-specific research on the categories included in your Eco-factor Power Point cards, using online and other resources you find useful, and submit the Power Point cards to CEIM for evaluation.
- Lead a new believer through The Way to Joy.
- Lead an unbeliever through The Story of Hope.
- Thorough reading of the Planting Churches Cross-Culturally, 2nd edition by Dr. David Hesselgrave (bring your book to class and be prepared to discuss).
- Each of you has been assigned the responsibility of developing “a solid, workable knowledge of the dominant religious worldview of the church planting context(s) in which you will be working.” In the explanation of that assignment, there is a link provided to download a Religious Worldview Grid. You must complete the grid for one of the dominant religious worldviews of the people whom you will be serving. Bring the completed grid with you when you come to EMC.
