Missions photography communicates the hand of God at work around the world.

Photographers have the unique ability to observe a situation and translate it into an image that will visually communicate that situation to others. We are looking for those with a God-given talent coupled with a desire to serve Him by assisting in the work of world evangelism.

The Program

ABWE’s program for missions photography commenced in 1999 for the purpose of providing up-to-date, professional, photographic resources for our missionaries to use in producing audio-visual presentations for their various ministries. The program was founded on the realization that there are many needs in missions for those who would volunteer their God-given photographic skills. We believe the vital link between missionaries and their supporting churches is dependent upon quality photographs to effectively communicate missions. Our goal is to train our team of volunteer photographers to effectively meet this need.

For our overseas assignments, we work with experienced photographers from a variety of specialties who are equipped to handle work of great magnitude. We look for those who are well-rounded, able to shoot a variety of subject matter (landscape, portraits, photojournalism, travel, culture, still life, etc.), usually in a tightly scheduled short-term trip. Photographers raise all of their own funding through their church and personal contacts to cover travel and photographic expenses. All of our photographers are shooting with digital SLR equipment and providing post-assignment caption information through Photo Mechanic software, ensuring compatibility with our web-based image search system.
