Volunteer Opportunities at the ABWE Home Office
ABWE Media Department
The ABWE Media Department has several short-term volunteer ministry opportunities available for those with audio and visual skills. The department designs and produces video, photographic and computer based missionary presentations and has needs for expertise in the following areas listed below.
Video Production Assistant
You will raise support for short one-to-two-week trips to various foreign mission fields in order to assist our staff videographer in acquiring stock video footage for ABWE productions. Sound recording or camera experience is helpful but not required. Travel notice may be short, so you should have flexibility and willingness to travel.
Photography & Videography
In order to continually update our image libraries, photographers or videographers with professional equipment and experience are needed for short term trips to several overseas mission fields. Countries include Albania, Brazil, Croatia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Romania, Slovenia, South Africa, Trinidad, Tobago and Uganda. These volunteers will raise their own support for the trip, which will be planned according to events in the particular field visited.
Digital Photographic Cataloging
We are currently working to digitize nearly 100,000 images from our slide library into a web-based database. This would allow searching the entire collection using key words, and could be accessed by any ABWE missionary world wide. This is a long term project involving the handling of photographic slides and data entry. It can be done according to your schedule.
Video Footage Logging
In order for our missionaries to access our wealth of video resources, we need help to log our video stock footage library. A computer-savvy individual is needed to copy information from paper documents to our computer catalog program. The task involves being onsite at ABWE Home Office in Harrisburg, PA and is expected to take several months (which can be spread out at your convenience).
A/V Equipment Repair
An electronics repair technician would be a great asset in helping us troubleshoot various pieces of media equipment. While the Media Dept is involved in production work for our missionaries, we are seldom able to find time to solve the technical issues that arise in using media equipment. This is an ongoing need that can be handled at your location and according to your own schedule. We currently have a number of units in need of repair that can be shipped to you to work on.
Media Assistants
Short term or periodic help is needed in sorting and filing photographic images, maintaining our historical collection, duplicating audio tapes for our tape ministry (especially needed in July-August), and other office tasks.
