Asia and the Pacific
Countries in this Region
Some of our older, more developed fields like Australia, Hong Kong, and the Philippines are not only receiving fields but are also maturing into sending fellowships of churches. We are witnessing the emergence of an Asian missionary vision as missions comes full cycle through a passion for outreach in obedience to the Great Commission. And secondly, newer, pioneer fields like Cambodia, Mongolia, Thailand, and other creative access nations are developing team strategies for evangelism, discipleship, church planting, and leadership development to target unreached people groups and ignite church multiplication movements. This dual emphasis for the Asia / Pacific region is creating synergy among our older and newer fields through comparing ideas and sharing resources. Pray for more laborers, gifted and commissioned by the Lord of the harvest, for the most populous continent on earth that paradoxically also represents the greatest proportional disparity between Christian workers and multitudes of people.
The Asia and the Pacific, divided into three ABWE regional administrations, is located on the eastern third of the rectangular 10/40 window where 60% of the world population lives, yet where only 27% of missionaries serve (and where just 25% of mission giving is invested). 80% of the world’s poorest people reside there and so do some of the wealthiest when you consider Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore, as well as the oil rich nations in the Middle East. 95% of the world’s least evangelized people dwell there, including the top two unreached people groups in the world – Bangladeshis and the Japanese. Most of the world’s governments that oppose Christianity are also located there. And every major non-Christian religion originated there – Buddhism, Hinduism, and Islam. Thank you for your interest in this part of the global harvest characterized by a rich heritage from the past and a clear vision for the future with missionary teams committed to a unifying regional purpose.
