“One of our national partners has famously said that what Muslims need to see in order to come to faith is a practical Jesus. We are all about living the new life we have been given in Christ alongside Muslim nationals in authentic, caring relationships."
The Spiritual Need in the Mediterranean & Middle East
The Mediterranean bears some of the world’s greatest physical and spiritual needs. Along with Central and Southeast Asia, it contains some of the world’s most unreached people groups.
Countries in this area of the world desperately need Christians to come and live life among them to demonstrate the greatness of our God. The vast majority of Muslims here are under an incredible misunderstanding of Christianity. Most never have an opportunity to hear the truth. Many have lived in poverty and broken relationships for centuries.
ABWE in the Mediterranean & Middle East
In this creative access region, we seek to practically demonstrate the love of Christ by meeting spiritual and physical needs through such services as medical care, community development, refugee relief, sports, education, teaching English, and small businesses. We see God working through personal relationships, hospitality, and a variety of services that demonstrate to people and their communities a “practical Jesus.”
Healthcare represents a major need in third-world countries. Clinical and palliative care programs are meeting significant needs and opening doors for redemptive relationships.
There is an ever-growing population of refugees in this region. Not only are they struggling to survive, but their children often lack education. We are working with local churches to provide such basic needs as food, heat, mattresses, and blankets while also offering literature that will address their deepest heart needs. Through informal schools, we are helping to provide basic education for their children.
We are partnering with nationals through community development projects and business development initiatives to alleviate poverty in the Arab world. Sports, medicine, counseling, desperately needed apartment renovations, and engaging with public school all serve to help impoverished communities. Small business initiatives serve to inject hope and dignity into the lives of people who desperately need it.
