PowerPoint & Scala Compared
A
relatively new and very exciting ABWE presentation option is Scala multimedia
computer-based presentations. With a Scala presentation, you can have
as many photographic images as you wish and you can synchronize
these images precisely to a complete narration-music soundtrack. All
of this can be run directly from a laptop computer through a computer data
projector. The entire hardware package weighs less than 20 pounds! Scala
IPlay Studio only costs $79.00!
"How," you may ask, "does Scala compare with Microsoft PowerPoint?
PowerPoint
- Does not synchronize precisely to a mixed (music & narration) soundtrack.
- Imbeds images into the main PowerPoint file, thus the use of many images will create a large "memory hog" file that tends to not run smoothly.
- 15 slide transition options.
- Software costs approximately $275.00, if you do not have MS Office Pro.
- Requires one week for presentation production at ABWE.
- Recommended use: speaker support presentations that do not require recorded soundtracks.
Scala
- Does synchronize precisely to a mixed (music & narration) soundtrack.
- Links to images and loads them only when needed, thus the basic presentation file remains smaller and requires less RAM (memory).
- 260 slide transition options (even true dissolves).
- Software costs $79.00.
- Requires two weeks for presentation production at ABWE.
- Recommended use: stand alone full multimedia (soundtrack and synchronized images) presentations
