  • The fledgling church plants that they are working with in Tsamikorfe and in Dededo are continuing on. Pray especially for Dededo, as there is strong opposion to the gospel. The leaders of the community have openly expressed they do not want another church there. A number of men and women there have come to the Cross, and made a profession of faith!  Pray that this fellowship of believers will develop into a church.

Togo Collapse

Togo

The initiative and industry of the four million people is an asset to the ABWE goal of church planting. ABWE missionaries have found the Togolese people very responsive to the gospel, therefore, they are eager and zealous to open new ministries on their own. Church planters are needed to execute the plan to multiply churches in the urban centers.

Kelli (Carole) Thayer

  • Recently, the Adeta church celebrated Thanksgiving. The service was set aside to thank the Lord for the blessings He has poured down into their lives in 2011. Special music was presented by the married men, the married women and the teens. After each group sang, they deposited their gifts. At the front of the church some people placed bags of corn, rice or beans from their harvest. Others gave monetary gifts that were collected in a small blue plastic laundry basket. It was a time of rejoicing and focusing on God’s generosity. The money will be put toward the completion of the addition to the church auditorium.
  • The last Sunday in January, we had just over 400 people in attendance.  They need to enlarge their building.

Japan

ABWE is looking for personnel who will persevere in learning the challenging Japanese language, and will reach out to these people who so desperately need to hear of God's love and forgiveness. It is difficult for the Japanese to break with traditions of their ancestors in a society that emphasizes conformity.

Building on the success of the past 20 years, the Portugal team has developed a new church planting strategy, called the "Portugal 4x4 Plan." The goal is to enlarge the base of first generation churches to 16 by the year 2016. These 16 churches will become the foundation for a national church planting movement in Portugal.

Bob and Jo Fry

  • Pali and Nael are doing a great job in leading the young people of the Santa Marta church. They bring a refreshing blend of youthful enthusiasm and mature friendship.
  • The church has had a number of young men preach on Sunday evenings, including Pali, Hernani and Marcone.
  • Please pray as they seek to know who it is that the Lord may be preparing as the future pastor. With that comes the need for a solid group of spiritual leaders for the church.

Spain Collapse

Spain

The present ABWE team centers its efforts in Madrid, Coslada (just outside of Madrid), and Toledo. In each location the Lord has gathered a small nucleus of believers in the process of becoming an independent local church. Plans call for expansion into outlying communities. In Madrid several ABWE missionaries minister at the academy for missionary children. Innovative approaches, such as sports evangelism and weekday classes in crafts, English and music are being blessed of God to broaden the number of contacts for the gospel.

Chile Collapse

Chile

The capital city of Santiago has been the center of ABWE ministries for years. Santiago has a European lifestyle and many large shopping malls can be found in the city. Many nationally pastored churches exist along with a thriving seminary program with three annex ministries. The ABWE Team however is extending ministries to Northern Chile where a team of missionaries serves in the city of Iquique. The team will extend to the south with a ministry to the Mapuche Indians. Adelphos Chile, a national mission board established in 1993 with 140+ missionaries serving in nine countries of the world, contributes to an ongoing national mission’s movement for the glory of God.

Bradley Collins

  • A record three-foot snowfall collapsed the roof of the local ice rink and ended this season’s hockey ministry.
  • Bradley writes, “This January we had 20+ kids that came from the church of Z to play hockey with us. We did Bible studies every night and it was a blessing to have them. Please pray for the church. I will be starting an outreach to the kids in Z soon, and moving forward with more Bible studies with them. Pray for the church in T for their ESL program, that at this time, more people will come out to church. And pray for growth for the church.”

Larry and Bev Smith

  • Larry and Bev Smith are planning a trip to C for May of this year. They have received authorization from the U.S. Treasury Department to travel to C.  They still lack the religious visa from C.

Ron Washer

  • Ron Washer reports on his trip to S: “I just returned from S, where our hearts were so challenged. The people are upbeat about having their own independence. While there is optimism, there is also a lot of suffering. Healthcare is still a luxury, education is bare bones with too many students and not enough teachers, churches are open but people need discipling and training. Opportunities exist everywhere for missionaries to serve the people of S and bring freedom in Christ after years of oppression."
