Togo Collapse
The initiative and industry of the four million people is an asset to the ABWE goal of church planting. ABWE missionaries have found the Togolese people very responsive to the gospel, therefore, they are eager and zealous to open new ministries on their own. Church planters are needed to execute the plan to multiply churches in the urban centers.

- The Kusel church is still awaiting government approval for their new building project. The initial building permit was requested over two years ago, but bureaucracy prevails.

Building on the success of the past 20 years, the Portugal team has developed a new church planting strategy, called the "Portugal 4x4 Plan." The goal is to enlarge the base of first generation churches to 16 by the year 2016. These 16 churches will become the foundation for a national church planting movement in Portugal.

- Dan and Kelly will present Good Soil Seminars in seven cities in Brazil this year.
Jerry and Lynda Neuman
- On Jan. 5, the (Brazilian) Maranatha mission approved the Ricardo and Rita Mafra family as missionaries. They have served in the Amazon, but now sense a leading into a church planting ministry in the interior of a neighboring country. This country, with its leader who delights in stirring up trouble, kicked out American missionaries from their country. Please pray for this dear family as they make the transition.
- Their young adult daughters, Natasha and Sasha, are also preparing to serve as missionaries.
- Jerry writes, “Pray for us as we seek to care for our MMM missionary family, now composed of six families, one single lady, one short-term family and a number waiting in the wings! We have another couple, Ronaldo and Thalita, being interviewed next Thursday with the goal of going to East Timor!”
John and Yvonne Baab
- Six churches that were without a pastor now have good men leading their congregations. Only one remains without leadership among their fellowship of churches.
- Pray for new students at the Bible College. They have a great group of teachers and John will be able to focus on administrative responsibilities this year. Yvonne will be teaching English.
Chile Collapse
The capital city of Santiago has been the center of ABWE ministries for years. Santiago has a European lifestyle and many large shopping malls can be found in the city. Many nationally pastored churches exist along with a thriving seminary program with three annex ministries. The ABWE Team however is extending ministries to Northern Chile where a team of missionaries serves in the city of Iquique. The team will extend to the south with a ministry to the Mapuche Indians. Adelphos Chile, a national mission board established in 1993 with 140+ missionaries serving in nine countries of the world, contributes to an ongoing national mission’s movement for the glory of God.

- The church will send a bus load of young people to camp in Santiago at the end of January. This has been a very fruitful ministry and many young people have come to know Christ as their Savior who are now actively participating in the church’s youth group and Sunday services. The church hopes to provide scholarships for many teens who cannot otherwise afford to attend.
Other Requests Collapse
Al Cockrell
- “I am asking our missionary family, supporting churches, home office staff, board and advisory council members to join in an intentional time of prayer and fasting to be observed on the first Monday of each month, beginning on Feb. 6. In addition, on Tuesday, March 20, (during the annual board meeting) there will be no lunch served. Instead, that one-hour period will be set aside for prayer and fasting. The main focus of these designated times of prayer will be for the future president of ABWE and the search process.”
Glenn and Eunice Priddy
- “While they are telling me the cancer is 'stable,' it is still progressing down its natural path. What they really mean by 'stable' is that it isn’t in a rampant or aggressive growing stage. Learning the real meaning behind these 'medical' terms is part of what Glenn and I are going through right now. We’ve learned a lot, but there is still more to learn. Jan. 17 marked exactly one year since this whole thing began. What a journey we’ve had over the past 12 months. God has answered so many prayers.”
- Eunice is scheduled for chemotherapy again on Jan. 31 and Feb. 15.
Brian and Lauri Dix
- An affiliate school in São Paulo, Brazil, recently decided to require their students to take whatever courses Horizon International Schools offers online, rather than make them commute to a classroom. Their team is working hard to prepare for next semester, when we will supply them with four new online courses.
- The São Paulo seminary and another one in Fortaleza, Brazil, have asked Horizon International Schools to help them launch a joint online master’s program sharing professors, courses and even students.
