Togo Collapse

Togo

The initiative and industry of the four million people is an asset to the ABWE goal of church planting. ABWE missionaries have found the Togolese people very responsive to the gospel, therefore, they are eager and zealous to open new ministries on their own. Church planters are needed to execute the plan to multiply churches in the urban centers.

Annette Williams

Annette Williams recently returned to Togo.  The situation with the employees and the anonymous threatening letter has been quiet since the delegation of pastors came twice to the hospital. She is planning another meeting with a smaller delegation of pastors.   Pray that these pastors will be true mediators, able to listen and give godly advice.  The hospital has received the papers from the justice system declaring that baby Sarah is an abandoned orphan and that the hospital is her legal guardian. Please pray for wisdom in the choice of parents to adopt her into a permanent Christian home of love and safety. Sarah had a tough start in life as a premature baby abandoned by her parents last November.

Ted John

Ted John (short term assignment) will be a part of a surgical team in Togo with Dr. Bob Cropsey and remaining on in Togo for a medical rotation for the month of September.

Papua New Guinea Collapse

Papua New Guinea

Papua New Guinea, a fairly youthful member of the world community of nations, occupies the Eastern half of the Island of New Guinea. The world's second-largest island stretches like a 1500-mile-long bird across the tropical Pacific. Its mountains and valleys, jungles, and South Sea shores are a tourist's and anthropologist's dream in today's progressive world.

Pat and Kellis Melson

Pat and Kellis Melson’s daughter, Rachel, is in China for a year, teaching English.  She had an appendectomy on September 5.  Pray for a quick recovery.  She will probably be in the six-month -old hospital for a week to reduce the risk of infection.  Pat and Kellis have been talking with her via Skype and she is in good spirits, trusting the Lord.

Bill and Lori Smith

Pray that they will be able to get their tractor and medicines through customs quickly and at the lowest possible cost.  The Bible College has started a new semester.  Bill is teaching two classes on discipleship.  Several students are in need of help with tuition.  Rain is needed to fill the water tanks they depend on.  Pray for the funds needed to print newly translated discipleship materials.

Romania Collapse

Romania

Romania is a key country in the region of Central and Eastern Europe for the expansion of church planting and missions. With this in mind, the team at ABWE is committed to mobilizing church planting missions movements in partnership with the Romanian church. The realization of God's glory is through evangelizing the nations, training godly leaders, planting and nurturing local churches, and equipping and facilitating the sending of Romanian missionaries.

Mike and Marylou Rummey

Mike and Mary Lou Rummey had the best group of campers they have ever had in their years of camp ministry.  The program was full and the campers had many opportunities to be confronted with the Gospel and their relationship to the Lord.  Please continue to pray that the Lord will help those who are saved to grow and that His Word will work in the hearts of those who are not yet Christians.  A mini retreat for the teens will be held at camp from September 7 - 9.  Chris Guess is coming to speak to the youth on the subject of holiness.  Chris and his wife Mihaela are pre-fielders raising support to join the ministry team in Romania.  Mike is heavily involved in the fall line-up of Church Ministry Institute courses.  He will be driving a visiting teacher to the first course on September 10 in Tulcea.  The last weekend in September he will be teaching a course in Tulcea.  Please pray for adequate time to prepare.

Spain Collapse

Spain

The present ABWE team centers its efforts in Madrid, Coslada (just outside of Madrid), and Toledo. In each location the Lord has gathered a small nucleus of believers in the process of becoming an independent local church. Plans call for expansion into outlying communities. In Madrid several ABWE missionaries minister at the academy for missionary children. Innovative approaches, such as sports evangelism and weekday classes in crafts, English and music are being blessed of God to broaden the number of contacts for the gospel.

Roy and Nancy Jones

Roy and Nancy Jones are in the US from September 4 until October 15. Roy is scheduled for surgery on September 14 in Hackensack, NJ.  Family Camp was a big success this year in Spain. There were about 90 people there. Roy had the challenge of finding beds for everyone and Nancy was responsible for the children’s ministry. There were about 18 kids between the ages of 3-11. It was encouraging to see many young people and young families as well. The speaker said his messages were based on the last two words of his Bible “Imitation Leather”. He talked about the importance of our words matching up with our actions - being a genuine Christian.  Roy and Nancy are still seeking the Lord’s provision for a car.

Please keep praying for God’s will to be done as Glenn works with various government officials.  In Paraguay, ABWE’s aviation ministry has ended.  They will either sell the plane in Paraguay or returning it to the US.  In Brazil, Al Yoder was able to renew a vital mechanics license.

Lloyd and Athena Peace

Lloyd and Athena Peace have been working with colleagues to plan some positive changes in the youth ministry.  Pray for the youth group - for spiritual growth, for unity, for national coworkers willing to be trained to work in youth ministry, and for the leaders as they implement some changes. Lloyd has been helping the church at Amaturá as they continue to work through the steps of legalizing the church.  He has started a Bible study with church on several important doctrines.  David has not been able to repair his boat by changing parts so it will have to be towed 700 miles to a repair shop in Manaus.  The river levels are at their lowest in years and it will continue to fall through September.  They may not be able to make it into Betânia at all for their ministry there.  The last check on the channel was a depth of 1.2 feet.  Lloyd is raising funds for a small plane so they will not have to depend on river travel so much.

Peru Collapse

Peru

Four cities in Peru serve as the centers for outreach to Peru’s vast population areas. (1)The Amazon River basin presents a jungle style of ministry including launch ministries to river villages and an urban style of ministry in Iquitos where the first missionaries arrived in 1939. Both in the city and along the river, opportunities exist to partner with and train nationals. (2) The coastal city of Chiclayo presents the challenge from upper class ministry and the use of an airplane to reach the mountainous areas. (3) The capital city of Lima has a variety of ministry opportunities described on their web page. (4) Arequipa provides a quaint historical setting for ministry with national partners.

Tim and Virgie Farley

Tim and Virgie Farley are preparing to return to Iquitos as their furlough comes to an end.  They need to raise $100.00 in monthly support and also some one-time gifts.  Tim writes, “Even though we know that they are in the very best care possible in God’s hands, saying good bye to both our children and Virgie’s parents will be especially difficult.”  Pray for their team in Iquitos as they soon rejoin them and transition into their new roles

Gil and Denise Thomas

Denise’s father, Richard Watson, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday August 28 after a lengthy illness.

Missionaries are preparing for tutoring sessions at a university for students of the majority religion.  After handing out 200 applications for tutoring, 80 have been returned and they held their first session September 4 for 17 students and then 16 more are scheduled for this Wednesday.  Pray for opportunities to witness through these tutoring contacts.

Two short-termers have arrived to serve as teachers at a Christian School ministry.  This is the first year in a long time that the school has had a full teaching staff.

Two short-termers will be returning to East Asia for a second year of serving alongside the team there. They will help with a new outreach opportunity to children in the community and they will also be working with college students each weekend.
