I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, And find out knowledge and discretion. The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth I hate. Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom; I am understanding, I have strength. —Proverbs 8:12-14

Togo Collapse

Togo

The initiative and industry of the four million people is an asset to the ABWE goal of church planting. ABWE missionaries have found the Togolese people very responsive to the gospel, therefore, they are eager and zealous to open new ministries on their own. Church planters are needed to execute the plan to multiply churches in the urban centers.

Papua New Guinea Collapse

Papua New Guinea

Papua New Guinea, a fairly youthful member of the world community of nations, occupies the Eastern half of the Island of New Guinea. The world's second-largest island stretches like a 1500-mile-long bird across the tropical Pacific. Its mountains and valleys, jungles, and South Sea shores are a tourist's and anthropologist's dream in today's progressive world.

Thanks for your prayers for Terri's mom. She made it through the 8+ hour surgery, and is trying to manage pain and be comfortable at this point today. The construction of a ranchon (a tile-roofed pavilion) is almost complete at the Las Flores church-planting site. Now the people will have a covered area to meet, and we are looking forward to ministering in the community there with a medical team in May. Prayers for Steve are appreciated as he continues in the ministry in Nicaragua while Terri and Kellan are in the US. He is hosting Pat and Bonnie Ryal, their newest Nicaragua teammates, and helping them get settled in their new environment.

Chile Collapse

Chile

The capital city of Santiago has been the center of ABWE ministries for years. Santiago has a European lifestyle and many large shopping malls can be found in the city. Many nationally pastored churches exist along with a thriving seminary program with three annex ministries. The ABWE Team however is extending ministries to Northern Chile where a team of missionaries serves in the city of Iquique. The team will extend to the south with a ministry to the Mapuche Indians. Adelphos Chile, a national mission board established in 1993 with 140+ missionaries serving in nine countries of the world, contributes to an ongoing national mission’s movement for the glory of God.

Colombia Collapse

Colombia

The country most known for negative news and experiences is the country that most experiences rich spiritual blessings in a growing church planting movement context. ABWE missionaries and national pastors function together to minister to Bogota’s growing population of 10 million + people. Located at 8,500+ feet, Bogota offers an ideal spring-like climate year round. Other areas are being reached by national/missionary partnerships including cities like Medellin. A national mission board also provides vision to expand to other parts of Colombia and the world.

Peru Collapse

Peru

Four cities in Peru serve as the centers for outreach to Peru’s vast population areas. (1)The Amazon River basin presents a jungle style of ministry including launch ministries to river villages and an urban style of ministry in Iquitos where the first missionaries arrived in 1939. Both in the city and along the river, opportunities exist to partner with and train nationals. (2) The coastal city of Chiclayo presents the challenge from upper class ministry and the use of an airplane to reach the mountainous areas. (3) The capital city of Lima has a variety of ministry opportunities described on their web page. (4) Arequipa provides a quaint historical setting for ministry with national partners.

Lynn Porter
Lynn Porter will be making several follow-up visits to the river towns where deaf friends live. The visit to Mazan has already been set for March 13. In April, she plans to visit Gallito/Panguana. There are three more deaf there who did not make it to the retreat. Lynn is currently in Lima for a medical check on a lump discovered in her breast. She writes, “I am hoping and praying that He will allow everything to check out benign. However He is the Lord of the harvest and knows what is best, and I will accept His decisions for my future. Thank you for your prayers!”

Bob and Shirley Cropsey
Dr. Bob and Shirley Cropsey (International Healthcare Ministries) The Wendell Kempton Medical and Ministry Center in Togo has received gifts totaling $4 million dollars toward the project. Pray that the remaining $1.5 million needed for the project will be provided in the near future. Pray that God will call out more career staff to join both our southern and northern hospitals. There have been some significant actions taken by high level government officials to help the project to achieve exoneration from the high import taxes. Pray that the National Assembly will soon pass a bill granting this request. The Ndungu Kebbeh Health Center, Gambia, W. Africa anticipates the ministry of Sarah Damick, RN, from SW Michigan. She now has full support and will be joining the Gambia team in a few weeks. There is still a critical need for short term and career physicians and could use several more Nurse Practioners. Bob spent two weeks in Togo in January. He was filling in for Dr. David Kuehler who made an emergency trip home for a funeral of a close friend and family member who died suddenly at Christmas time.

Norm Barnard is now in the critical care unit at the hospital following complications with the stents that were inserted. Gradually throughout today (4 Feb), they withdrew the many drips and machines supporting his life. He’s stabilized, but very weak, exhausted, sometimes a bit disoriented. He’s on oxygen, but otherwise breathing on his own, and his heart shows a steady rhythm. The prognosis for recovery is good, but it will be slow. The doctor has no idea why stents would collapse in this way, and he’ll be running tests to be sure of their stability before he sends Norm home, probably sometime next week.
