Spreading Good News In Torino

February 17, 2006

Please pray for people in Italy, as the city of Torino hosts the Winter Olympics. The ABWE Olympic Team, actively spreading the gospel in Torino, is spearheaded by Dave and Wendy Weaver, ABWE missionaries in Italy. Dave arranged a partnership with Action Ministries to do evangelism in Torino. ABWE missionaries, Jim and Lori Spoto, have been been working closely with chaplains from Action Ministries, evangelizing with them and translating for them. An MSNBC article states, "The most visible Amis, as they are known in Europe, are the missionaries. With their cowboy hats and colorful jackets, it’s not hard to spot the chaplains from Action Ministries handing out their Jesus Pins on Piazza San Carlo where NBC films “Today.” *

Action Ministries is a faith-based organization in Georgia. The director competed as an Olympic wrestler almost 30 years ago, and he has many open doors to the Olympic committee and athletes. The Spotos are hoping that through his contacts, Christian athletes might come to their town, Avigliana, and sign autographs while believers give out the Jesus Pin and share the gospel.

There have been many opportunities to share the gospel at the Olympic games in Torino. The team met a first-year seminary student studying to become a priest who is searching for God and knows the evangelicals have a personal relationship with Him. They also met a Canadian Italian woman who is hurting and needs the Lord. Even though they are in Torino, it has been exciting for the Spotos to talk with many people who are from their town of Avigliana, Italy.

During these days of excitement and bustle in Torino, Italy, pray for the missionaries in Italy, as they make contacts and develop relationships with people who need the gospel.
