Lee Roberson with the Lord
Dr. Lee Roberson, evangelist, pastor, and great man of God, passed into the presence of Jesus on Sunday morning at the age of 97. He faithfully served on the ABWE Advisory Council for 53 years.
Dr. Roberson was a longtime pastor of the Highland Park Baptist and founder and chancellor emeritus of Tennessee Temple Schools. He also began Union Gospel Mission in 1950, which is a “lighthouse to the homeless and helpless.” He was world-renowned in religious circles and some have called him the “Spurgeon of our times.” Countless thousands have come to Christ under his ministry and the ministries of the thousands of men and women who he faithfully led and trained.
Dr. Lee Roberson was preceded in death by his daughter Joy Caroline and his wife, the former Caroline Allen. ABWE extends condolences to the surviving children: son, John C. Roberson and wife Donna, daughter LeeAnne Nichols and husband Dr. L.W. ‘Buddy’ Nichols, daughter June Ormesher and husband Bill, and eight grandchildren.
Roberson’s favorite Scripture verse was Romans 8:28: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2007 at Highland Park Baptist Church, and the burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 404 South Moore Road.
