Joining the Moncayos
Ecuador

Fernando and his son Juan
Our missionaries have not yet arrived in Ecuador, ABWE’s newest field, but Ecuadorian missionaries are already bearing fruit there. During a recent visit, Bob Trout and Geoff Williams experienced an unexpected outpouring of God’s blessings regarding national partnerships.
Fernando Moncayo, an Ecuadorian banker with a high position in the Central Bank, his son Juan, a student at a Christian college in the United States, and the rest of the Moncayo family have already been reaching a coastal village for Christ, located about 8 hours from their home in Quito. Fernando purchased a property intending to use it for family vacations, but he soon learned that a greater divine purpose was involved. Through circumstances that only God could arrange, they decided to use all of their free time to share Christ with the people who live in the village of La Travesia.
The Moncayos’ new property is located just 15 minutes from Manta, Ecuador’s fastest growing city, a seaport town. Villages dot the coastline of Ecuador and represent one of Ecuador’s greatest opportunities for the gospel. The excitement of the children and parents as the Moncayos arrive at their humble home is beyond description. Children come running from every corner of the village to sing and hear the Bible stories that this Ecuadorian family shares with them. At a recent meeting, 120 villagers came to hear the gospel and experience the love of Christ that the Moncayos show them. They are looking forward to a daily Vacation Bible School program that will take place between Christmas and New Years.

Meeting with the children
God has granted the Moncayos much fruit since they began their “missionary travels” from their beautiful home in Quito to their humble bamboo constructed home on a cliff overlooking the Pacific coast. While walking on the sands of the beach with Juan and Fernando, Juan asked the following question: “Many people are willing to die for Christ, but where are the ones who are willing to live for Him?” Just a few hours later, Juan’s question would become more important as we stood on an additional piece of property he had purchased about half a block from his house. He shared his vision of a school that would teach the village children their ABCs with a Biblical focus, where adults would learn how to read and write, and church leaders would be trained.
The Moncayos are asking ABWE to join them in partnership to reach their Ecuadorian people for Christ. Would you be one to join them?
