Tribute to Dr. Jack W. Jacobs

Dr. Jack Jacobs, an honored and long-time member of the ABWE Board, was called home to be with His Lord around 8:00 a.m. this past Friday, April 20, 2007, at the age of 71, following a battle with cancer and numerous strokes. Jack leaves behind his beloved wife of 52 years, Nancy (Quick), six married children: Roger, Cindy, Sandra, Jill, John, and Keri, along with their spouses and 16 grandchildren who were the delight of Jack’s life.

Dr. Jacobs served on the ABWE Advisory Council from 1974-1979, on the Executive Board from 1979-2007, and was an active and wise member of the ABWE Board Doctrine Committee. He served as a minister of the gospel for 50 years as a pastor in Iowa, New Jersey, and Ohio as well as a Bible professor and chairman of the Bible and Theology department at Baptist Bible College in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania. He also served on the National Council of 18 for the General Association of Regular Baptist Churches and was a trustee of Cedarville University, in Cedarville, Ohio.

Dr. Jacobs will be remembered most of all for his thoughtful and wise counsel to the president and Board of ABWE for the past 33 years. While he was not the most vocal member of the Board, he was always thinking. Whenever he did lift his hand with a question or a suggestion usually toward the end of a Board or committee meeting, everyone listened to his deliberate and thoughtful insight. Dr. Jacobs’ great gift to the worldwide family of ABWE missionaries and partner churches around the world was his humble and gentle spirit and godly wisdom.

Our Board, administration, and missionary family extend their gratitude, love, and prayers to Nancy and the entire Jacobs family. “We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8).
