The ABWE Katrina Committee met after the recent investigation of the Gulf Coast Region to determine the further needs and just how and where ABWE can assist. Several Churches in the Gulf Coast Region identified several couples and individuals that are in need of permanent housing, since their homes were totally destroyed and beyond feasible repair. The ABWE Katrina Committee and the ABWE Project Office have been investigating the possibility of building several homes for the needy families. We are now in the planning phase to start construction of the first home in the Slidell, Louisiana area, estimated to start some time in June or July, with the assistance of a Church we have been partnering with, in conjunction with construction volunteers from various churches around the United States. The delay is due to our need to work in conjunction with any insurance these families may have coming and any potential assistance from FEMA. Clear titles for land and clearance from the authorities to build on land is also part of the approval.
There is much to do and many obstacles to overcome. Continue to pray for the ministry of the churches n the area.
