Faith Bible Church Progress Report
Faith Bible Church is located twenty miles NE of New Orleans, on the opposite side of Lake Pontchartrain, in Slidell, Louisiana.
“We would like to tell you about the work God is doing through our church and the work teams He has sent to help rebuild our community. God is doing amazing things in Slidell, particularly at Faith Bible Church. He is faithful, and He provides!”
Since the first meeting of the Katrina Relief Team on September 11, we have received work teams from Missouri, Texas, Arkansas, Pennsylvania, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Michigan and Washington, DC, totaling around 275 people. They have assisted 64 families and worked on a neighboring church as well. This week we are expecting teams from Florida, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Missouri, and Alabama.
We are beginning to move into a transition phase, continuing with the deconstruction of flooded homes, preparing them for reconstruction. We will also start the rebuilding process, beginning on some of the first homes the teams worked on. Please pray for us as we move into this time of transition.
It is exciting to see the progress that is being made in Slidell. In the church building, the preschool nursery now has sheetrock and flooring! For families with small children, safety at the church has been an issue. We now have a safe room for the little ones.
Please pray for:
- The time of transition to construction.
- Phone service at the church building to be quickly restored.
- The seven families in our church that are unable to return to their homes, which were either destroyed or severely damaged.
- Strength and endurance for our team.
- Safety (including travel safety) for the groups that come to work with us and our community.
- That God will continue to provide groups and resources.
- Patience and positive attitudes for everyone involved.
"This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God's people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, men will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else." 2 Corinthians 9:12-13
