Carl Elgena with the Lord

January 10, 2007

Dr. Carl Elgena, longtime Regular Baptist pastor and leader, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 26, 2006.

He served in administrative roles with ABWE since 1951, when he was elected to the ABWE Advisory Council. He was elected to the ABWE Executive Board in 1963 and served as Secretary of ABWE from 1973 to 1976. In 1973, he was appointed Trustee of the ABWE Retirement Plan Trust.

Dr. Elgena pastored several GARBC churches, was a member of the GARBC Council of Eighteen, and for several years was a Regular Baptist Press consultant. In addition, he had administrative responsibilities with Baptist Bible College and Seminary.

He graduated from Baptist Bible Seminary and received a doctor of divinity from Los Angeles Baptist College in 1960. His church ministry spanned a period of more than 60 years in New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.

For three years, Dr. Elgena was the vice president of Baptist Bible College and Seminary, and he also served on the council of the GARBC for many years. During these years, he also had the opportunity to minister in the Philippines, Japan, Hong Kong, and the Holy Land. After retiring from the pastorate, he served as a short-term missionary in Australia and Norway, and was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church in Pike Creek, Delaware.

Dr. Elgena was a wonderful pastor, shepherd, husband, father, grandfather, mentor, counselor and a great friend to many. ABWE is grateful for his lifetime of service to our Lord. Our sympathies extend to his wife, Susan Breckley Elgena and their family.
