Did you ever attend a seminar that got you all hyped up to discover your part on the mission field, only to be left in the dark when the event ended? At ABWE, our goal is to help students like you discover your interests, follow your passions, and determine your calling for missions. We specialize in helping students discover the mission field through our agespecific service programs.
Expedition: High School Students
Expedition is a time of discovering. Team trips are offered each summer for high school juniors and seniors who desire to challenge their perspectives and broaden their awareness. Each team member participates in boot camp training prior to departure.
Youth pastors and church leaders! Let us know if you would like help planning your group’s summer trip!
I joined Expedition for a trip to Nicaragua. It was one of the best opportunities to serve God that I have ever been given. Each new experience—raising support, traveling, seeing a different culture, learning about unique ministries—taught me a different lesson that I know God will use in my life. ABWE showed me what it takes to be a missionary and was there to guide me when I had questions or needed help. It was great to see an organization that gives missions opportunities to high school students. —Megan Leffler, IOWA
Impact: College Students
Impact provides opportunities for college students to focus. Just as your educational pursuits are becoming more intentional, our college segments are more focused as well. Team trips, internships, and life coaching can aid in your growth as you follow God’s leading in your life.
Team trips are designed for students from all across the North America to engage in practical service, cultural saturation, and future missions investigation. Team trips help students who desire to practically serve in a team context, learn from experienced missionaries, and be challenged about future involvement.
Internships through Impact are created for an individual to earn academic credit or spend an extended time serving in a country.
Whether your major is in education, youth ministry, missions, nursing, graphic design, photography, or something else; an internship can be crafted and provide practical ways for your gifts and interests to be used cross culturally.
Many students feel God leading them to missions but aren’t necessarily looking for a trip opportunity. Life coaching provides students with insight needed to make practical decisions today that will allow them to serve cross culturally tomorrow. We listen and provide input in areas like marriage, coursework, avoiding student loans and debt, local church involvement, and serving experience. Life coaching helps students understand the long-term impact of their choices.
The folks with Impact did not just put me on a plane and say ‘good luck’ when I went to Nepal and Norway. They spent three days extensively training our team. That team dynamic later helped us to push through many hard days. ABWE’s Impact program will challenge you in every area of your life, but they will do it along side you, walking with you every step of the way. —Brian Green, MICHIGAN
Student Missions Forum
ABWE’s Student Missions Forum (SMF) offered me a good look into the logistics of missions. It also offered some practical steps to take in getting from where I am now to where I feel God is leading me in the future. As a junior in college, SMF gave me a great opportunity not only to learn about missions, but to see how ABWE approaches mission. SMF taught me that becoming a missionary is not as mysterious as I once thought. —Kyle Hess, PENNSYLVANIA
Sometimes it helps to connect with people who can answer questions, help you get there, and listen to how God is moving in your life. ABWE’s Student Missions Forum is an annual event at our home office near Harrisburg, PA that connects students from all across the United States for a weekend of missions challenge. Students are able to interact with experienced missions personnel. They also receive an in-depth look into a missions agency and how it can help in a journey to the nations.
The Student Mobilization Department at ABWE walked me through everything I needed to prepare me for the missions decisions I would make upon graduation. I was given wise counsel for my questions early on in the process … and practical ways to accomplish the larger tasks I face at the beginning of missionary career. Participating in missions trips and a college internship through ABWE have enabled me to return with career questions to the same individuals who had been my counselors throughout the whole process. —Taylor Traficanti, VIRGINIA
