Since first earthquake was reported in Chile hundreds aftershocks have been reported. Hundreds died. Millions have been left homeless.
Chile represents the region’s largest concentration of ABWE missionaries. We are thankful that all have come through the earthquake unharmed. ABWE’s national pastors, church members and Adelphos partners report that they are also well.
The following is an update of some of the relief work being done to address the need in Chile.
- Patricio Oliva, president of Chile Adelphos, an ABWE national partner mission agency, has been in contact with an English group called ShelterBox, which helps earthquake victims by supplying a tent and kitchen items.

- The first shipment of boxes with 200 tents and kitchen items has arrived and is currently being distributed. As future shipments arrive each week, they will also be distributed. A total of 1000 tents and other items will be distributed to people without houses.
- ABWE missionaries, Adelphos staff and volunteers will help distribute these resources.
President Patricio Oliva is excited about what God is doing and the testimony that will go forth in this great opportunity. “A great door and effectual has been opened…” It is our privilege to work alongside of this agency as we watch God work there in this great need.
About 20 people from ABWE missionary Scott Russel’s church have distributed more than 40 bags of groceries, 20 bags of clothes, gallons and gallons of water, copies of the Gospel of John, tracts, and Bibles to those impacted by the earthquake. During that outreach 14 people came to Christ in salvation.
“Our hearts were heavy as we saw how many have to live now. I do not understand how we can sit comfortably in our homes and do nothing,” Russel says. “If we do not go, then I hope we will generously give so that others can help make a difference in the lives of those that are still suffering in the south.”
