Spring 2010 Message EditorialLeah Farr

Miss Leah Farr

A few months ago my small country church took a special offering for a mission organization we support in Haiti. About 120 people were in attendance that day, including children. Many members of the congregation had already given generously to relief efforts under way after an earthquake rocked the country.  Many more had been impacted in some way by the United States’ economic instability. Yet, when the treasurer slipped a little white sheet of paper into our pastor’s hand we waited with bated breath.

"This church has again shown its generosity," he said. "This year’s offering for Haiti is $32,000."

Imagine, $32,000 from about 80 adults and 40 children in one day! My heart erupted with joy for God’s amazing multiplication and the miracle we had all just been a part of. The witness of such great faithfulness struck me deeply and permanently—as though I had just witnessed the feeding of the 5,000.

In Matthew chapter 24, God calls us to be “faithful and wise servants” in the management of our time, finances, and talents. Our faithfulness can serve as a life raft for people in Haiti, Chile, and around the world, who live under crushing physical and spiritual burdens.

This issue of the Message magazine highlights those who are using their time, talents, and finances wisely, stepping up for the poor and hurting. It also provides ways for you to do the same.

Please join us in praying for the world, and consider how God is calling you to use your time, talents, and finances to bring light to the darkness.
