On any given day missionaries may face stress, sickness, disappointment, extreme climates, spiritual battles, financial crisis, and cultural challenges. The mere act of renewing a driver’s license (a potentially annoying task in America) can become a hairpulling adventure when you throw in language barriers and changing cultural norms. Now, imagine trying to start a church, share the gospel, or disciple someone in that same kind of context.
Fortunately, we serve a great God who achieves amazing things for His kingdom—despite the weaknesses of His people.
As we acknowledge the work that must be done and the great frailty of our human ability, we realize how dependent we are on God’s provision for our every need. From strength, patience, and endurance, to protection, health, and finances, every work and every worker involved in the Great Commission needs bathed in prayer.
At ABWE prayer is a number-one priority; we acknowledge that nothing can be done effectively unless it is brought before the throne of grace.
Psalm 145:18 says, “The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth.”
This issue of the Message is dedicated to the question “Why pray?” Does it even matter? As you will see, missionaries are grateful for your prayers; they see them answered every day. I hope you enjoy this issue of the Message, and more importantly, I hope you join me today in praying for the work of God to be accomplished through ABWE missionaries and all of God’s people around the world.
