Making a ChangeCheryl Fawcett

Cheryl Fawcett of 4:12 Generation works with teens around the world.

The picking of a name is an important task. When Adam picked the names of the animals in the Garden of Eden, he became more important to them. In fact, he became in charge of them!

ABWE is largely international in its outreach and focus. Much of the ministry is forged on the international aspect of ABWE’s youth ministry. ABWE President, Dr. Michael Loftis has encouraged me to refine my ministry focus more intently on international youth work. That refocusing comes with a new ministry name. As of January 1, 2010 my ministry became “4:12 Generation.”

These have been great years for me of working in international settings. The opportunities around the world have been growing in number, in intensity, and in effectiveness as I learn how to best assist ABWE teams to strategically reach the youth living in their regions. To respond to these increasing open doors, I have devoted more time and energy towards international pursuits.

“4:12 Generation” references I Timothy 4:12, the only place in the New Testament that makes reference to youth or young people. Paul writes to encourage young pastor Timothy to not let anyone look down on him but instead to be an example of the believer in word, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. Indeed, now is the time for reaching this generation for Christ. We cannot miss this generation, for Christianity is only ever one generation away from extinction.

Every culture has teenagers who are deciding what to do in their life now, and in the future. Consider, if you lead a 15-year-old to the Lord in 10 short years, that convert will be 25-five-years old. That young person has a whole life ahead of them to live for Christ.

In many fields there are people who are focusing on reaching young people—who can give the rest of their lives to Christ! Think through your best ideas as to how to reach youth for Christ and bring those ideas to the table with you. Whether those ideas come from a specific ministry to them or from other areas of your ministry, they are welcome!

My commitment to equip nationals and missionaries to do youth work is unabated. My desire to help connect promising youth ministry professionals with fields that need youth ministry specialists around the ABWE world is firm. This ministry’s name change equals renewed focus on international youth ministry!
