Kids Can Help Start Churches, Too!Jim Cook

Jim Cook and the youth of Feitoria Baptist Church

This is a true story of how a group of children in central Indiana helped start a church in southern Brazil that is reaching boys and girls and men and women for the Lord Jesus Christ.

Six years ago, the Awana kids from Bethesda Baptist Church in Brownsburg, Indiana, wanted to take an offering for one year for an Awana club they would adopt in a foreign country. It just so happened that ABWE missionaries Randy and Cindy Richner were going to start a church in Sao Leopoldo using an Awana ministry. So, Bethesda kids from three years old to sixth grade gave each week so that a new church could begin in Brazil.

Six years later, that church, Feitoria Baptist Church in Sao Leopoldo in Brazil, is doing well. In fact, I was able to teach leadership training for about twenty children’s workers from that church. There are about 100 kids in that Awana ministry who are reaching many of their parents and friends for Christ. Randy and Cindy Richner may have started the church, but kids from Bethesda Baptist in Brownsburg, Indiana, helped.

Together, we can accomplish more for the Lord Jesus. It is amazing to see what kids can do. And this story gets even better! To reach more children for the Lord Jesus, the leaders and kids at Feitoria Baptist Church are reaching out to a nearby area to start another Awana club. Even more churches are being started!

Maybe your Awana club or children’s Sunday School would like to help start a church in a similar way. Let me know. We will get you in contact with a missionary who could use your assistance, much like kids from Bethesda Baptist Church helped start an Awana club in Brazil.
