EditorialLeah Farr

Until about a year ago, I was working as an editor for a successful publishing company in Philadelphia. After a promotion and several raises, I reached a new level of self-reliance.

I soon realized, however, that “success” was eroding my faith in God as my provider.

Then, last year, my sister suggested I apply for the editor position at the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism (ABWE). I knew that my income would be impacted, but God was challenging a stronghold in my life. “Will you follow me?” “Will you do MY will no matter the cost?”

You may understand why I smiled when the Message editorial team announced the focus of this issue: God’s great provision. For the past four months, I have spent my days talking with people who have experienced God’s faithfulness in their finances and beyond. My job has become a great encouragement, an antidote to my biggest faith struggle.

Through it all, I’ve been reminded of the provision of manna from heaven. We are told that there was always enough for that day, but those who tried to hoard it for the future were surprised to find that it rotted and was filled with maggots.

I’m learning that when Jesus said to pray “Give us this day our daily bread” He meant that we need to to depend on Him alone. He wants us to trust Him for today and know He takes care of tomorrow.

This issue is filled with stories of people who are living examples of that faith walk. People, just like you and me, who are discovering that despite reports of a global economic downturn, God’s provision is always enough.

Wherever you are in life, whether employed or recently laid off, living comfortably or fretting about the future, I pray that this issue encourages and challenges you to trust in the Lord with all of your heart and be faithful stewards of everything you have been given.
