The Sosa Family
Abigail Sosa lives with her parents and sister in a small home in Paraguay. She suffers from a disability that has placed a huge strain on her family’s time and resources. Unsure of what to do, the Sosa family approached ABWE missionaries for help. Through the Care for the Children Fund, the Sosas were able to provide Abigail with safe, healthy living quarters that have “greatly enhanced her quality of life,” according to Abigail’s father.
God has instructed His people to care for “the least of these.” The Care for the Children program was created by ABWE with that very command in mind. Since November 2005, ABWE has compassionately distributed $33,500 to families and children, so far in the countries of Columbia, Papua New Guinea, Australia, Thailand, Moldova, Brazil, and Bangladesh. Its goals include—
- Sharing the good news of Jesus so children can have eternal life.
- Meeting children’s practical needs—physical, medical, emotional, and educational.
- Rescuing children at risk of trauma and death.
From street children in Brazil to war orphans in Eastern Europe to children affected by AIDS in Africa, ABWE has used this fund to respond to needs that touch the hearts of our missionaries, needs like those of the Sosa family.
Abigail’s father recently wrote to ABWE:
“Dear Brothers,
Your gesture to us has been a great example of the unity and affirmation that should be seen between the children of God. First, we give thanks to God. We see clearly the relationship process, in that although you don’t know us, you have entrusted us with a special gift, not because of personal gain or interest, but with the desire to assist a brother in his moment of need.
With your generosity, the quality of life of our daughter Abigail has been greatly enhanced. We did not think it would be possible to construct a special room for her, but your gifts made it possible to do so. That is the greatest gift to us.
We praise the Lord because we know that you have been instruments for the glory of the Lord…
