By the grace of God, ABWE sent its first missionary to the Philippines eighty-two years ago. Lord willing, by the time you read this article I will have traveled to the Philippines for my first visit. PABWE (Philippine ABWE) has successfully been sending missionaries to Thailand for about forty years. God has used these missionaries to reach other Asians with the gospel.
ABWE Canada is developing partnerships with several Filipino organizations, including a hospital on the island of Panay, in order to support a Filipino-Canadian in his ministry of evangelism and church planting. We are looking to facilitate the return of many more Asian expatriates to their home lands to tell of God’s love for their people. Many Filipino believers are also taking their faith to the Middle East and Africa. An army of tent-making church planters are already serving God in places where most North Americans are not welcome. There is also a multitude of believers who are now being mobilized from Asia to serve in limited access counties.
In this issue, you will read about what God is doing in several ABWE fields. Our missionaries are involved in medicine, teaching ESL (English as a second language), orphanages, theological education, discipleship, sports, creation education, tribal evangelism, camps, rescuing sex-trade workers and prison ministry; all with a goal to see people come to faith in Christ and then be added to the church.
God is building His church through the ministry of ABWE, from the mountains of India to the rice fields of Japan. He is reaching the tribes of Papua New Guinea as well as the urban population in Australia. By God’s grace, ABWE will continue to partner with our Asian brothers and sisters to reach Asia and the world until Christ returns.
