Angels Rejoicing

The Gambia —

By J.T., ABWE Missionary in The Gambia

The following is a letter written by an ABWE missionary to her father, after her mother passed away.

Dear Dad,

Tonight I had a chance to share the gospel with my houseworker. She has never really shown any interest [in Jesus], but she was never antagonistic either. She has heard me say things and even attended special services here; apparently she has been watching and listening for years.

Recently, while we were talking, I sensed a real openness in her to what I was saying. I decided to go ahead and challenge her with the fact that every person has to make their own decision to place their hope and faith in Jesus, or in their own ability to do good works.

At that point, she looked at me and said, “I believe,” in a matter of fact tone. I wondered if I had heard her correctly! I asked her to clarify that she believed this in her heart, and she agreed that she did.

I’ve come to find out that what really drew her to making a decision was the fact that we are so sure that Mom went heaven after she died.

I’m sure Mom is rejoicing with the angels right now that her death has resulted in fruit here in The Gambia.
