Haiti —
ABWE is continuing to make contact with people and agencies located in Haiti in an effort to identify how relief funds can be used most effectively. As many of you are now aware, the situation on the ground is worse than initially reported. The following information from the field will serve to direct aspects of our immediate relief effort:
- Hospitals that haven’t been damaged are filled, with an additional 250 to 300 people lying in the halls, many with serious injuries that need immediate attention. Many more victims are staying outside in makeshift shelters or on the ground in surrounding areas.
- Doctors and medical personnel are exhausted.
- Thousands of people are sleeping in the parks just below in Petion-Ville, afraid or unable to return to their homes.
- An estimated 10,000 to 15,000 people are sleeping in the park near the airport.
- A small segment of corrupt individuals are attempting to steal whatever “aid” arrives before it gets to the helpless people.
- People are laying along the roads with serious injuries, multiple fractures and puncture wounds; bleeding and unattended.
- Countless small children are wandering about without any parents or adult oversight.
- Everything is closed down; water is scarce and reserves are quickly being depleted.
The ABWE Haiti Relief team will soon allocate funds to provide immediate assistance in the areas of medical care and humanitarian aid. In addition, relief funds will be directed toward second-tier medical and reconstruction assistance in the weeks and months to come.
We will be providing regular updates about our efforts on this site. Please consider responding with a generous donation, and direct those who want their contribution to make an eternal difference to support the ABWE Haiti Relief fund here.
For the mountains shall depart and the hills be removed, But My kindness shall not depart from you, Nor shall My covenant of peace be removed,” Says the LORD, who has mercy on you. Isaiah 54:10
