May 2012 partner update

Dear ABWE Partner, As I reflect upon 2011, I cannot help but rejoice at the mighty ways God used your prayers and generous giving through ABWE to make an eternal difference all over the world. Your commitment to the Gospel has touched thousands of lives, and has helped us meet our 2011 ministry goals in the areas of recruitment, resources and realignment. On behalf of all of us at ABWE: thank you so very much! We are humbled by what you have done for the glory of God’s kingdom. God did amazing things in 2011. During a year when our nation was creeping out from underneath a deep economic recession, ABWE contributions totaled the most in our history. More than $46.7 million in resources were contributed last year, 90 percent of which went directly to missionaries in the field. The Lord also blessed us in the area of recruitment, with more than 52 new career missionaries and 217 short-term missionaries spreading the gospel around the globe. Your contributions helped establish 105 new church plants, many of which were planted by national partners first ministered to by ABWE missionaries. And with a new mission field opened in Tanzania, your support is helping us continually realign with our mission to make disciples who will pick up the torch of missions themselves and launch their own local and global missions movements. And let’s not forget the 117 Bible training programs, which ministered to 8,691 students all over the world. God has used your support to bless ministries like that of Dave and Patty Zemmer in Salvador, Brazil, where a counseling training ministry has seen its number of students triple. Praise God with us for His faithfulness to His people! Finally, we are deeply thankful for your dedication to God’s work through this mission as we seek the Lord for a president. We have met with several focus groups who largely affirmed the profile we developed, and have met with an executive search consultant concerning our next steps. The ABWE senior administrative team continues to fast and pray for this important task. I am truly humbled by your commitment to Christ’s command to “go and make disciples of all nations.” Praise God with us for these reports, and please accept our thanks for your role in making these ministries possible. Please continue to pray with us as we strive to faithfully steward resources, recruit missionaries and realign ourselves to spread God’s story of salvation across the globe in 2012, and beyond. Faithfully yours, Al Cockrell Executive Administrator How you can help missionaries The global economic recession hit our missionaries particularly hard. In an effort to ease their burden, we dramatically reduced the amount of support they must raise for the myriad of services our team supplies to help them on their mission. Our Missionary Services Fund helps support important services to our missionaries — like prefield training ministries, media support and materials, and church relations and administration. In fact, we frequently hear from missionaries who’ve transferred here from other agencies about how amazed they are at the amount of support our Home Office gives them, compared to their previous experience! Nevertheless, missionaries’ accounts cover less than half of the cost of these much-needed services. Would you prayerfully consider helping us continue our high level of services to these great servants of Christ? A one-time gift of $500, $250 or whatever amount the Lord puts on your heart will greatly help us offset these costs, and will keep our missionaries focused on the field to which Christ called them. Even better, you could become a Missionary Services Fund partner, and assist all of our missionaries every month! For more information about Missionary Services or how to partner with these missionaries, contact Don Davis, Director of Advancement at don@abwe.org or at 717.909.2339. Be sure to include the purpose as 0051501 when sending a gift. You can also give online at www.abwe.org/give. Thank you for participating in God’s great plan!
