More than half of the population of Cambodia is under the age of 21. Most communities are characterized by broken homes, divorce, abuse, drugs, and immense poverty. In the fatalistic worldview of Buddhism this results in a life of hopelessness, brutality, and carnality almost beyond description. The future of the young church and the nation depends upon reaching the next generation with the gospel of Christ and giving them a new beginning in Him.
ABWE missionaries in Cambodia are reaching out to young gang members, drug abusers, and murderers. Several have come to faith in Christ. They have established a “New Beginnings Student Center” for more effective evangelism and discipleship. The center is located in an area where thousands of young people live within walking distance and newly constructed residences are going up almost weekly, increasing the potential outreach and impact.
They have outlined their plan as follows:
- Fund initial start-up costs through designated gifts and ministry funds. The total need is $10,000 and $3000 has already been received.
- Make the center self-funding within two to four years. Currently the local church meeting in the center pays the rent.
- Train Khmer leaders and transition the sustainable/reproducible ministry to them in order for the proceeds to fund other church planting initiatives.
Please pray with us for this important ministry and consider what the Lord would have you do to help give a new beginning to someone without hope. A gift of $50 will provide signs or wall decorations; a gift of $100 will supply chairs, a file cabinet, or shelves; $150 will cover painting, security, or games; $400 for a stage or screens; $450 for a sound system; $800 for a projector. A gift of any size will be a blessing and offer hope to Cambodian youth.
