Tips for Overseas Email

E-MAIL is a wonderful tool to use for communicating and encouraging. The following tips will inform you of issues to keep in mind:

Email can be very expensive overseas. Many missionaries pay per minute for sending and receiving all email, and often the emails are received at very slow speeds compared to systems in the United States. Therefore, sending forwarded material, especially graphics, can cost them a lot of money for communications that they really don't want.

Also, some communications come with huge lists of recipients. Check your set-up to eliminate non-essential material from the heading. If you really believe your missionary friend wants the material you received from someone else, copy & paste the essential material on a single communication--don't forward it. The forward option includes the list of previous recipients, which is non-essential.

Personal communication to missionaries is always welcome. Don't stop writing to your missionaries.

Email in sensitive countries is often monitored by others. If this is the case, avoid using words that may trigger a reaction from a government that is hostile to Christianity. If you have questions, you may send an email to the Executive Administrator of your missionary friend's field in order to get his informed advice. Email addresses for Executive Administrators are listed under Office Staff.
