Help Us
Turn Tragedy
Into Hope

ABWE's Compassion Relief Ministries offer more than just aid to those facing disasters. Because Compassion Relief is always coupled with the Gospel message, we know we're saving physical lives AND building new communities of faith.

Helping Real People
Som-o's Story

Som-o was scared and unsure of where to go. The young nurse had been taking English classes at Bangyai Baptist Church in Thailand before the country was immersed in a dangerous sea of murky water - a result of the worst flooding to hit Bangkok in a half a century.

As the waters continued to rise, Som-o sought refuge at the church. An ABWE partner recognized Som-o was afraid and encouraged her with the Good News: "Christ is our rock and steadfast fortress in times of trouble." It was the truth Som-o longed to hear but had denied for so long. That night, she finally put her trust in Christ.

How Our Help Works

For almost two decades, ABWE's Compassion Relief Ministries have sent food, water, building materials, medical supplies and services, and financial aid to disaster-stricken countries around the world. In saving physical lives, we've seen people come to Christ as we show His love in a tangible way. Many churches have been planted and souls saved as a direct result of Compassion Relief Ministries.

During the tsunami that struck southeast Asia in 2004, ABWE worked with national partners to help rebuild churches and villages. We also trained local pastors who were able to bring Christ to areas previously closed to the Gospel. More than 10 churches were planted as a result!

When a deadly earthquake struck Haiti last year, ABWE had no ministries in the country. But by sending medical teams, we built relationships with many pastors who later became national partners. We've seen these kinds of opportunities open up in each of the countries where we have a Compassion Relief Ministry.

As you read this, flood cleanup efforts are underway in Thailand. Almost 9 million people have been displaced and hundreds killed in the flood. The waters also destroyed 14 percent of Thailand's rice production, which impacts hundreds of small farmers who now have no source of income.

ABWE has been working with national partners to assist flood victims. But there are still needs to be met and lives that can be changed with the help of additional aid. You have the chance to make a difference in the lives of Thailand's people and those who experience disasters in the future.

"Then the righteous will answer him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?' And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.'" Matthew 25:37-40
