About ABWE
The ABWE - Canada Historical Connection

David Smith
Director of ABWE Canada
Leander Roblin worked hard and covered Ontario and the Maritime provinces. ABWE became known as a sound, active and effective mission board. In the early 1960s, ABWE Canada was officially registered to meet the Canadian government requirements. Roy Lawson and later David Irwin, both highly respected pastors, served as board chairmen. This gave ABWE more credibility as a Canadian organization.
Mel Cuthbert was called to be the Canadian Representative following the retirement of Leander Roblin. Mel felt the need of more visibility for ABWE and he established an office in Burlington, Ontario.
At the end of 1979, Mel returned to his former field of Brazil and Reginald Snell took over the representation of ABWE Canada. The work continued to grow under his leadership.
Frank Bale was named the Canadian Director in 1992 and the office is now located in London, Ontario.
In 2004, the Canadian Council of ABWE appointed David Smith as the new Director of ABWE Canada. For more information on David Smith and his family, read the Message Magazine article "ABWE Canada Appoints a New Director."
There has been a steady flow of Canadian missionaries joining the ABWE team around the world. Canadian teams have traveled to various fields challenging young people to the need. Though working closely with American colleagues, ABWE Canada has distinctive Canadian personality. The board handles the processing of candidates and keeps close touch with the missionary.
