What We Do
ABWE follows Christ’s command to make disciples among all the “ethne” (people groups) everywhere.
What We Believe
ABWE is determined, under God, to be a spiritually empowered family of servants committed to glorifying Him.
Ms. Ellen Martien,
co-founder of ABWE
In 1927 Dr. Raphael Thomas, having served for 25 years in the Philippines, resigned from his denominational mission board because they pressured him to cease evangelizing. Others shared his passion for evangelism and church planting and soon a new Baptist mission was born.
Dr. Michael Loftis,
president of ABWE
Dr. Michael Loftis became the President of ABWE on March 1, 2001. Prior to becoming President of ABWE, Dr. Loftis served as the ABWE Executive Director of Central and Eastern Europe from 1990 through 2001, and also on ABWE’s Missionary Administrative Council and President's Advisory Council.
ABWE’s International Administration and Training Center is located on 137 acres in suburban Harrisburg, PA, high on a hill with a breathtaking view of the Susquehanna Valley. The home office staff, about half of them volunteers, provide the services needed to maintain the vital linkage between local churches and their missionaries around the world.
